If evolution is wrong and it can be proven wrong, why do people still believe it?

Fear of accountability. If there is a God, he might have rules. If rules are broken, there might be consequenses. Selfishness and lack of self control drives people to not pursue the evidence and just turn away.

Another factor that has caused the theory to grow is this:
The government started pushing evolution to children in public schools in the 1950's due to us being behind in the space race with the Russian's. Our government thought that since the Soviet Union was mostly Atheist, they had open minds and an advantage in exploration of space. Check some old school books and see where God was stricken out.
