Last Thursday, details emerged of a frightening new version of the Cybersecurity Act of 2009. The bill was originally authored by Senator Jay Rockfeller D-W.Vmonths earlier. but If passed, the bill would give President Obama emergency control of the Internet, and furthermore may give him the power to shut down online traffic by seizing private networks.
“In the original bill they empowered the president to essentially turn off the Internet in the case of a ‘cyber-emergency,’ which they didn’t define,” said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which represents the telecommunications industry.
This is a most frightening development. If this bill is signed into law, it will be a huge violation of the First Amendment. Proponents of the bill argue it will help prevent terrorist’s access to our water, electricity, banking, traffic lights, and electronic health records in the event of a cyber-emergency, but do we absolutely have to sacrifice our liberties in the process? It is our duty to improve our national security, and in the present day and age it is very important; but giving the President the power to shut down citizen’s access to the internet is certainly not necessary.

Wow that is scary!! I was watching glen beck and he was talking about a bill that was passed in the middle of the night that allows the government to download cookies to your computer that allows them to track your computer activity. Is that true ?!
So what do “we the people” propose to do about our grave situations taking place currently? Are we waiting for another civil war or another revolutionary war???
Keep up the good work keeping us all informed. Hopefully this won’t pass!!
This is downright ridiculous. A huge step towards socialism. And communism.
It is important that we vote for honest people who will make honest decisions. Right now even most of our political leaders are in it for their own personal gain. The reason why President Obama was elected into office was because of his charisma, and his ability to charm uneducated voters with propaganda. If enough of those citizens are woken up to the truth, we can stop these people from ruining our Democracy. Thanks for everyone’s comments!

How do you think we would be able to keep the President from making it a law.
Well Jessica, first the bill has to get through Congress, so we can e-mail/call our Senators and Representatives and ask them to oppose this bill. If it passes through Congress, I have no doubt that President Obama will sign it into law. It is extremely important that we stop this at the Senate level. I think our best bet is if we can sway some of the flip-floppers in the Senate to oppose this bill, all of those in Congress who make their decisions based on how it will effect their popularity. We are stronger when we unite. The more public opposition to this bill the better. Thanks for your thoughts, Calvin
Hey G-Grandma, sorry I forgot to answer your question. I sincerely hope that we can stay unified as a country. War should always be the last reserve when fighting for what you believe in. In my latest article titled: “A Government for the People” I wrote a little about this. Jesus said” ‘Blessed are the peacemakers’. I don’t think it is sinful for a Christian to fight in a war, but I also think that we should obey our authorities as long as doing so does not conflict with our walk with God.
